Rowans Row Your Boat 1st Birthday

Coming on here as a typical mom to say “as if my baby is already one” and being so guilty of using the face holding back tears emoji too much.

You only turn one once, so I went all out for Rowans 1st birthday party. The theme was Row, Row, Row Your Boat, and it was absolutely perfect for our little man who actually loves boats and swimming so much!

Being the DIY parents we are, we built a wooden sail boat for the party! We wanted to create a special moment to take pictures of Rowan and his little friends, and we’re going to convert it into a sandbox for him to play in for years to come! The boat took an afternoon to build and you can watch the process right here. I sewed a linen sail from an old shower curtain and an extra curtain rod made the perfect sail mast for the party!

We ordered the most beautiful balloon garlands from LD Creations that truly set the mood for the party, whimsical yet sophisticated, like a true day on a sailing yacht. We also ordered about 30 partially filled white balloons to fill the boat and the kids loved it. They were squishy and soft and not a single one popped the entire day!

I spray painted about 30 mini clothespins gold and ran a rope under the balloon garland to hold a collection of photos of Rowan from the last year. It was incredibly precious to see so many favourite moments over the last year and to see how much he has changed since he was born!

We set up a food table full of delicious food and on theme snacks! King Cole Catering really delivered on delicious wraps (chicken caesar and pesto veggie), the creamiest mac and cheese and the freshest greek salad. We got so many compliments on the food and were really happy with the service King Cole provided to us!

Rowan’s 1st birthday cake was made by Kayla at Sugar and Salt Bake Shoppe and it was absolutely perfect! Lemon blueberry cake with buttercream icing and the sweetest decorations really made a special moment for our little guys first cake. Some of the on theme snacks I used to fill up the table were plain goldfish, candy fish, chips ahoy cookies and sun chips. I also added some printed napkins, coral, and origami sail boats and to fill up any open spaces on the table.

We had a corn hole game set up for adults and a bunch of kids toys scattered around the yard to keep everyone entertained and overall I’m pretty sure everyone had a good time! But mostly Rowan had the most fun eating a bunch of cake and kissing his girlfriend on the cheek in his boat (his actual first kiss and yes we all died). Happy birthday my sweet Rowan!
